My little couch in my office is covered in cell phones! Thanks a TON! To anyone out there with an unused or broken cell phone, I am collecting them until January 5. The phones will be donated to CALL to PROTECT, a non-profit organization that refurbishes the phones and distributes them to potential domestic violence victims through participating local abuse organizations and police departments. All phones are fixed and programmed to dial 911. So, bring your phones to my office (119 Scripps Building) by January 5. Then our friends at UCSD Police Department will come pick them up! It'll make you feel good knowing you are doing good. Many thanks, friends. (Jill Ives, x43948) Ship News R/V Revelle Weekly Report December 12, 2000 - While traveling along the Molokai fracture zone on our way home from Hawaii, we are mapping its complex pattern and structure with the magnetometer and Seabeam 2112. We will compare the data gathered here with that of the previously surveyed Murray fracture zone. The Molokai fracture zone was produced by a long, left-stepping transform fault system, and the adjacent Murray fracture zone by an equally long, right-stepping one. These two fracture zones responded in different ways to the same changes in relative plate motion. The Seabeam 2112 is working flawlessly. Even though we've been heading into the seas from 20 knot trade winds, we have received consistent 120 to 125 clean beams in 4500 to 5500 meters of water.
