Your parking information is now in the SIO Administration Office Computer database IF you received an SIO Permit last year. If you have never applied for an SIO permit, please see Tim in the SIO Graduate Department Office. After he has signed the application form please see Lynn in the Administration Office, Room 104. There are four ways to submit the requested information if you are already in the database:

1) PHONE: Lynn at x42830
2) COMPUTER: Submit your parking decal form electronically via the internet at:http://www.sio.ucsd.edu/sio_only/forms/parking.html
3) IN PERSON: 104 Scripps Building, 9 a.m. - 12 noon & 1- 4 p.m.
4) EMAIL: parking@sio You have until June 30, 2001 to obtain your SIO parking decal.

Beginning July 1, 2001 parking citations will be issued. There is no grace period.

UCSD CANCER CENTER LUAU PSA WINS EMMY - Local UCSD filmmakers were awarded an Emmy on June 9 at the local National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Emmy Awards for their production of "Surfing for a Cure." Filmmakers Rosalie Escobar, Geoff Hill, and Brad Marks produced the winning public service announcement for the UCSD Cancer Center Luau and Longboard Invitational. (822-0023)

NOTICE OF ELECTION RESULTS OF THE SIO FACULTY - Your ballots have been counted and the results are as follows: John Hildebrand has been elected Vice Chair of the SIO Faculty, effective September 1, 2001, through August 31, 2002. He will serve as the Chair of the SIO Faculty, 2002-03. Farooq Azam and Andrew Dickson have been elected members of the SIO Faculty Executive Committee and of the Representative Assembly of the UCSD Academic Senate, effective September 1, 2001, through August 31, 2003. Laurence Armi and Margo Haygood have been elected as their respective alternates.

SIO LIBRARY AVANTI SERVICE CONTINUES - SIO Director Charlie Kennel funded the continuation of SIO Library's Avanti Web-based "articles-on-demand" service. With this service, you can read or print articles at your desktop that are scanned from the print journals at SIO Library or the Science & Engineering Library. UPCOMING WORKSHOP - 26th Annual Climate Diagnostics and Prediction Workshop, October 22-26, 2001 at SIO - The 26th Climate Diagnostics and Prediction Workshop will be held October 22-26, 2001 at SIO, which is co-sponsoring the workshop with the Climate Prediction Center of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction in Camp Springs, Maryland. The American Meteorological Society is a cooperating organization. The workshop will provide an opportunity to exchange information, ideas and opinions on many topics, including:
* Review of the 2000-2001 climate;
* Assessment of climate predictions in 2000-2001;
* Precipitation forecasting in complicated terrain;
* Drought/water monitoring in the West Monsoons;
* Diagnosis and prediction of intraseasonal oscillations;
* Diagnosis and prediction of decadal variations;
* Global, regional and local ocean-land-atmosphere interactions
Presentations will be in both poster and oral form. Poster presentations are encouraged, since time constraints and a large number of papers necessarily limit the number of oral presentations we can accommodate. Please use email to send your abstracts to cdwshop@ncep.noaa.gov. Include: Title, author(s), affiliation, a brief abstract, email address, phone number, facsimile number, poster/oral preference. The above information is due by July 2, 2001.
