Join Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego for a special evening under the sea featuring musical performances from UCSD music graduate students. On April 14 from 6-7:30 p.m., visitors can stroll through the aquarium and encounter groups of live musicians performing pieces written specifically for this unique event. This is the first time in a decade that Springfest, an annual showcase by UCSD music students at locations around campus, has been held at Birch Aquarium at Scripps.

"Our hope is that combining the ocean world with music will provide guests a beautiful and unusual experience," said Caroline Miller, UCSD music graduate student and Springfest program curator. "It's not often that we have the opportunity to interact with biology and art simultaneously."

The musical event will feature different genres of music performed throughout the aquarium. Guests can enjoy electroacoustic performances within the Hall of Fishes, contemporary classical melodies in front of the centerpiece two-story kelp forest tank, improvisational music in the Smargon Courtyard, and American folk performances on the Tide-Pool Plaza.

"As a part of UC San Diego, Birch Aquarium at Scripps is thrilled to be collaborating with another campus department on such a unique event," said Nigella Hillgarth, Birch Aquarium at Scripps executive director.

The event is $10 for the public and $8 for aquarium members and UCSD students (with ID). Tickets may be purchased online or by calling 858-534-5771.
