Dive into Summer Camps at Birch Aquarium at Scripps

Experience live animal encounters during summer camps.

Explore the ocean from top to bottom during Summer Learning Adventure Camps offered through Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego.

These fun and engaging ocean science programs — designed for ages 4-15 — inspire understanding and stewardship of the ocean and its inhabitants. Camps run from June 25-Aug. 24. Registration begins March 12.

Experience live animal encounters, hands-on activities and field excursions for an entire week or just a day. Camps feature amazing ocean creatures, gooey dissections, the remarkable world of sharks, adventures in oceanography and the chance to learn how to surf and snorkel.

Birch Aquarium's Summer Learning Adventure Camps are accredited by the American Camp Association. This nationally recognized accreditation ensures the aquarium meets more than 300 quality standards and provides a safe and nurturing environment for campers. In addition, our instructors receive training through Kids Included Together, an organization committed to providing learning opportunities for children with and without disabilities.

Camp Spotlight:

Sea Slugs - PreK-K
Weeklong, half-day camp; $210

Dive into a week of fun! Explore the ocean and the magnificent wonders found beneath the waves without leaving the aquarium. Learn about jiggling jellies, scuttling crabs, slip-sliding snails, toothy sharks and massive mammals! This engaging camp features hands-on activities, games, role-playing and live animals.

Ocean Playground - Grades 1-2
Weeklong, half-day camp; $210

What would it be like to grow up in the ocean? Discover how sharks, otters, turtles, penguins and sea stars grow and survive in their watery homes. Make and take home fun educational projects incorporating these exciting discoveries. Each session features stories, interactive games, aquarium visits and live animal interactions.

Ocean Explorers Camp
- Grades 2-3
Weeklong, full-day camp; $365

Learn about San Diego's local ocean habitats and discover the amazing adaptations of the animals that live there. During visits to Birch Aquarium and local beaches, hands-on projects will help to develop understanding of our ocean. Explore your creative side as you see how artists around the world present their respect for the ocean.

Shark Encounters - Grades 4-6
Weeklong, half-day camp; $255

Become a shark expert as you spend the week investigating and encountering a variety of sharks. Learn about shark biology, behavior and conservation through observation and hands-on activities. Snorkel with local sharks and meet Scripps Institution of Oceanography shark researchers.

Surfing Into Science - Grades 7-9
Weeklong, full-day camp; $395

Surf's up! Dive into the perfect blend of ocean sports, beach exploration and marine science activities. Hone your surfing and oceanographic skills as you learn how beach shape and the ocean bottom play important roles in the waves we ride. Go snorkeling and kayaking to observe animals that share the waves with us.
