Scripps Communications Office
Scripps Communications at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego, is the focal point for assistance in matters involving media coverage and publicity of Scripps-related activities. Scripps Communications assists scientists, administrators, and staff to convey relevant information to the university, scientific communities, and the general public in an efficient and timely manner.
Scripps Communications researches, writes, and distributes news releases regarding new and ongoing studies, research findings, new programs, awards and honors received by Scripps and its researchers, lectures and seminars, retirement and obituary notices, Birch Aquarium at Scripps, and other stories originating at Scripps.
News releases are distributed to a wide variety of specialized media lists, including local, regional, and national, and international newspapers, scientific journals, freelance science writers, specialized magazines, and television outlets. Scripps Communications does not flood the media with irrelevant releases. Each release serves a specific purpose and is sent to select media.
